Vortex

Water obsessed Leonardo Da Vinci throughout his life. Leonardo made hundreds of observations on the movement of water at this time, in particular his astute analyses of complex motions in terms of linear and circular components  As a tribute to Da Vinci, and experiment in hypertexturing, i created this printable 3D model combining iron rock and vortex in one object.

Vortex

Leonardo da Vinci’s lifelong obsession with water and his meticulous research into vortices is utterly fascinating. His astute analyses of the complex motions of water, breaking them down into linear and circular components, were truly groundbreaking for their time.

Leonardo’s work remains relevant and influential to this day, inspiring contemporary artists such as Frederik De Wilde. In a tribute to Leonardo, De Wilde created a 3D printable model that combines an iron rock and vortex in one sculpture. This work serves as an experiment in hyper-texturing and a testament to Leonardo’s legacy.

De Wilde’s creation adds a new dimension to our understanding of Leonardo’s research and highlights the ongoing relevance of his scientific insights. The blending of art, science and technology in De Wilde’s tribute is both creative and thought-provoking, reminding us of the timeless value of scientific inquiry.
