DISPLCR – Data Sculptures

DISPLCR #1

Blender 001 Series – 2015 | Art Basel

The Blender project emerged as an innovative cross-disciplinary format developed by Boiler Cooperation, an Italian creative agency, in collaboration with DJ Davide Squillace. This initiative sought to merge live electronic music performances with contemporary artistic interventions, fostering a dialogue between sound, data, and form.

As part of this endeavor, artist Frederik De Wilde transformed the ephemeral nature of Squillace’s live sets—comprising sounds, images, video, and other recorded data—into sculptural form. Employing custom computational processes, De Wilde translated this sensory input into three-dimensional geometries, effectively materializing data into tangible artistic objects. These algorithmically generated forms were then 3D-printed at Materialise NV, a leading additive manufacturing facility in Leuven, Belgium.

The resulting sculptural works function as data-driven visualizations of sound, embodying a synthesis of digital aesthetics, material experimentation, and the evolving relationship between music, technology, and sculpture. DISPLCR #1 and its counterparts were exhibited at Art Basel 2015, underscoring the intersection of algorithmic art and contemporary digital fabrication within the realm of high art.
